It was during their respective tours as electro artists that Ana Roxanne and Brian Piñeyro, aka DJ Python or DJ Wey, formed a unique friendship and collaboration, which led to their new joint project, Natural Wonder Beauty Concept. Ana's debut album, Because of a Flower, released in 2020, is both ethereal and direct, stretching timeless pop and R&B forms into shimmering ambient magic. Mas Amable, the second album by DJ Python, an innovative deep reggaeton artist from Queens, also subverts expectations. Neither quite a dance record, nor a downtempo record, nor an ambient record, it unfolds at a nostalgic pace, naturally suited to a strange time. During the initial sessions at Gary's Electric Studio, they achieved a melancholic and new sound encompassing trip-hop, synth-pop, sharp IDM percussion, and classical music samples. They then found themselves in Brian Foote's home studio, the director of Kranky, during the summer of 2022. Drum machines and dreamy, dense atmospheres reminiscent of Seefeel and Boards Of Canada blend with bizarre ambient landscapes. Ana influences the sound with forms of chords and subtle, monumental textures, adding her vocals over strange and beautiful rhythms. The self-titled album bears no resemblance to the previous works of either artist. Instead, it is a sui generis piece, built gradually over two years. DJ Python and Ana are both known for their bittersweet and contemplative electro music that accompanies moments of calm. With their new project, the two artists have found their natural, albeit unexpected, counterparts. Natural Wonder Beauty Concept is the sound of two talented artists learning to be alone, together.
