Happy Girl

Description

Happy Girl from 1965 is one of MPS's earliest albums and a true collector's item. It impressively demonstrates why Nathan Davis is considered one of the greatest jazz musicians of his era — even though he never achieved widespread recognition because he focused on teaching at the University of Pittsburgh, where he founded a major jazz studies program.Recorded in Villingen during his stay in Europe, Davis is accompanied by a first-rate lineup: Woody Shaw (trumpet), Larry Young (piano), Jimmy Woode (bass), and Billy Brooks (drums). Davis excels on tenor and soprano saxophone as well as flute. You can hear five compositions by Davis, Shaw's "Theme From Zoltan," and a standard — Shaw does not play on the first two tracks. Remastered by Grammy-nominated sound engineer Christoph Stickel, the album is now released on high-quality AAA MPS vinyl — an intense sonic journey through Davis's versatile playing. This record has been unavailable for decades! One of the very first records in the MPS catalog and a long-time collector's item. Reissued for the first time.
