Description
By the time "Welcome to the Club" was recorded, Nat "King" Cole was already widely recognized as a singer and entertainer rather than a jazz pianist. Only a few rare exceptions, such as the small-group album "After Midnight," released in 1956, showcased Nat Cole as a pianist (despite his great mastery of the instrument). For the rest of his successful career (cut short by his death in 1965 from lung cancer), he continued to sing more and more, and play less and less. "Welcome to the Club" features Nat Cole backed by a big band.
