Whine Of The Mystic

Description

Nova Scotia's Nap Eyes released their first full-length album, *Whine of the Mystic* (2014), a unique blend of literary pop and jagged guitars, both sophisticated and laid-back. Recorded live to tape, with no overdubs, the record captures the band's raw and immediate energy while exploring both everyday and philosophical themes: science, religion, music, solitude, friendship, and romantic rifts. Frontman and singer Nigel Chapman, also a biochemist, weaves everyday details and scientific references into his lyrics, giving the songs a singular depth. Ambitious tracks like "Delirium and Persecution Paranoia" and "No Fear of Hellfire" delve into psychology, geology, and the paradoxes of faith, while more introspective titles like "Dreaming Solo" and "Oh My Friends" explore human emotions with sensitivity and honesty. Alongside Chapman, Josh Salter (bass), Seamus Dalton (drums), and Brad Loughead (guitar) shape the band's distinctive sound, rooted in the jangle pop tradition of Halifax and influences ranging from The Clean to Lou Reed and Modern Lovers, without ever imitating anyone. Initially released in a limited edition, *Whine of the Mystic* is now back via Paradise of Bachelors, finally offering a wider audience the opportunity to discover this gem of cerebral and lively pop, both rooted in the everyday and looking towards the stars.
