At the age of six, Alec Mendonça stumbled upon Boston's first album as well as some old Beatles records that changed his life forever. By the age of 14, he began playing more professionally and bought a Luthier bass. At 18, his grandmother bought him his first special Fender Jazz Bass, even recording an album in 1996 that was broadcast in Brazil, but everything came to a halt due to an illness in the family. After a 14-year break to take care of family matters, Alec Mendonça was finally back in the world he loved, the world of music. N.O.W. was born at that moment, and by joining forces with Brazilian keyboardist Jean Barros, the entire foundation of the songs was created at Studio 430. After 3 months, Alec recorded 12 songs! Alec had to go to the studio so many times that he lost count, sometimes spending the whole day away from home for months, but it was worth it. With the demo CD in hand, he only wanted to find the right voice to perform it, and although Alec knew how to sing, his voice was more of a background voice. Seizing his chance, he decided to send the tapes to people he knew through the Internet and caught the attention of talented singer Philip Bardowell (ex-Peter Criss, Ace Frehley of KISS, ex-Beach Boys, ex-Unruly Child) who loved the songs so much that he decided to sing them for Alec. "Force of Nature," the first album in 2010 (ESM204), is indeed a force to be reckoned with, featuring so many twists that you will easily be swept away by its universal appeal. The reviews were stunning, with magazines praising how good the band sounded. After 3 years of preparation, a new lineup was needed for Alec to achieve the sought-after sound. Alec then found what seemed to be the main ingredient for his second album; guitarist Juno Moraes. Juno is all heart and melody, and his licks are breathtaking. A new drummer was also needed, and this time, Lars Chriss was called in to mix and master the album. Lars gave the new album the punch and life it desperately needed to sound like a true winner. During the recordings of the second album, Alec also lost a very close friend who was as close to an angel as one could get at the tender age of 17 due to leukemia, which is when one wonders if there is a God.... And so the result was a much darker and gloomier album. Alec also felt the need to convey all the rage and pain he went through after the death of his friend and wrote a song to express his feelings; this song is "No One Can Feel It's Over".... It should also be noted that the sound of The NOW has leanings towards Foreigner and Rainbow at times... This is not a bad thing. If you loved the first album for all the right reasons and Foreigner, Journey, we can guarantee you a Magical Mystery Tour with this second installment, full of surprises, hooks, choruses, and layers of guitars. NOW is back with a second album that will set the tone once again; it is a much stronger release than the debut and is sure to impress fans, both old and new.
