Description

Mystery is a current Quebecois band formed by six musicians (vocals, guitar, drums, keyboards, acoustic guitar & bass), and featuring eleven guests (saxophone, flutes, violin, cello, keyboards, backing vocals, etc.). The band's orientation lies between symphonic progressive rock (for the instrumental parts) and FM rock (for the sung parts). They are sometimes reminiscent of the Belgian band Now. The concept album developed into two long suites, "Theatre Of The Mind" (1996) consists of two suites named "The Reality" (15 minutes) and "The Dream" (28 minutes), which are themselves composed of several parts. Released two years later on the Musea label, "Destiny ?" showcases a finely crafted progressive rock, with refined arrangements and perfect vocals. The predominant singing of Gary Savoie is found to be as close to that of Steve Perry (Journey) as to Geddy Lee (Rush), while the acoustic or electric guitars of Michel Saint-Pere enhance his performances. A special mention goes to the magnificent quarter-hour of the suite "Shadow Of The Lake." Not to be missed... Now firmly established on the international progressive rock scene, the Quebec band makes a significant impact by recording "Beneath The Veil Of Winter's Face" (2007). In nearly twenty years of career, guitarist Michel Saint-Pere's band has gained recognition on the international stage for the quality of its works. But it was the recruitment of a certain Benoît David, singer of a Yes tribute band, that would definitively cement their reputation. Mystery was thought to be at its peak... before learning that their vocalist would become the official replacement for Jon Anderson in YES! Returning home after this brief interlude, Benoît DAVID once again demonstrates the full extent of his abilities on "The World Is A Game" (2012). The new album by the Canadian band is performed, in addition to its two leaders, by bassist Antoine Fafard (Spaced Out) and drummer Nick D'Virgilio (Spock's Beard). With such instrumentalists, the masterpiece of symphonic progressive rock was practically inevitable. Mystery achieves it brilliantly!
