My New Band Believe marks the return of Cameron Picton, bassist (and occasional frontman) of the British rock trio black midi. Conceived as a solo project with a collective soul, this debut album inaugurates a bold new chapter after the band's split in 2023. Surrounded by close musicians such as Kiran Leonard, Caius Williams, Steve Noble, Andrew Cheetham, and members of the London octet caroline, Picton crafts a debut record that is both expansive and hallucinatory. Mostly acoustic, My New Band Believe retains an epic intensity and maximalist scope, inherited from black midi, while forsaking electronics in favor of a folk sound that is sometimes pop, direct, and inhabited. It's a deeply personal work that captures the anxiety of our time only to transform it into a promise for the future.
