An iconic figure on the British music scene, Murkage Dave has spent the last decade crafting a body of work that defies categorization. His debut album, Murkage Dave Changed My Life (2018), has amassed over 12 million streams on Spotify, while its successor, The City Needs A Hero (2022), climbed to number 10 on the UK iTunes chart and number 15 on the UK Independent Artists chart. With his upcoming album, Brut Thoughts, Dave explores the inner turmoil of modern life and the fractured world around him, questioning internet culture, overstimulation, the immigrant experience, political extremism, and the power of community. The album channels the anger and disillusionment of the present, while refusing to lose hope. "This is the music of millennial meme culture," he explains. "The cacophony of my thoughts pours out into songs. Living in the shadow of the Thatcherite and Reaganite economic policies of the 80s, the broken social contract, the broken promise of a better life if everyone did their part." A truly cathartic soundtrack to life under late capitalism, the album draws inspiration from Talking Heads, Sampha, The Smiths, and The Streets. A collaborative spirit is at the heart of the album's DNA, with contributions from James (Yard Act), Kayus (Young Fathers), Ellery (WU LYF), and Lauren Auder. Touring with Yard Act in 2024 was also a true creative catalyst, as was the touring collective he co-founded with Mike Skinner.
