In total contrast to the staccato intensity of the hardcore raves of the time, the Telepathic Fish parties offered a true "wombeldelic" sensory bath, as Simon Reynolds wrote in Energy Flash. This illustrated compilation traces for the first time the history of this underground ambient party in South London, a convergence point from which Ninja Tune, Warp, and Rising High emerged. Organized by Openmind — Chantal Passamonte (Mira Calix), David Vallade, Mario Aguera, and Kevin Foakes (DJ Food) — with the help of Mixmaster Morris and Matt Black (Coldcut), the Telepathic Fish parties are among the very first chill-out parties in London in the early 90s. Born in the electronic underground, these parties took over houses and squats with handmade visual installations and a completely unique design. They hosted Aphex Twin, Andrea Parker, and Tony Morley, before expanding to VIP aftershows for Orbital, illegal gatherings at the disused Roundhouse, or appearances on the legendary Solid Steel show on KISS FM. Meanwhile, Openmind collaborated with Megatripolis, shared stages with Autechre, Higher Intelligence Agency, and Global Communication, and created the fanzine Mindfood to document this emerging culture. This edition includes a richly illustrated 20-page history featuring never-before-seen photos, flyers, artworks, and memorabilia covering 1992–1995, as well as a gatefold sleeve displaying the original Telepathic Fish logo. The selected tracks — originally over a hundred, now distilled to the essentials — are titles played at the parties, including rarities from Caustic Window (Aphex Twin), Tranquility Bass, Spacetime Continuum, and Global Communication. The compilation is released on double black vinyl compatible with DJ use, with an obi strip featuring a quote from Simon Reynolds, and lacquer cut mastering by Beau Thomas (Ten Eight Seven Mastering).
