On May 15, 1953, Toronto's Massey Hall hosted an exceptional musical event, bringing together five legendary jazz figures on stage: Dizzy Gillespie (trumpet), Charlie Parker (alto saxophone), Bud Powell (piano), Charles Mingus (double bass), and drummer Max Roach.
During this legendary evening, "The Quintet" transformed its own creations 'Salt Peanuts' and Gillespie's iconic 'Night In Tunisia,' and redefined contemporary standards like 'All The Things You Are,' Jerome Kern's timeless ballad, with rare intensity. This unique summit meeting of bebop giants and the last joint recording of Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker is considered one of the greatest jazz performances of all time.
