Barbara was born in Paris in 1930. She was 9 years old when the war broke out and was marked by this period of exodus and personal tragedies. As a teenager, she took piano and singing lessons. After difficult beginnings in Belgium, she became the star of the cabaret L'Ecluse, where she performed other artists' songs. Soon, Barbara began writing and composing, leading to "Dis, quand reviendras-tu?", her first real big hit.
Her destiny changed when she joined Philips in 1964. One album, then a second, then a third – all her records found their audience, and successes followed one after another: "Nantes," "Pierre," "Au bois de Saint-Amand," "À mourir pour mourir," "Si la photo est bonne," "Göttingen"…
In 1970, "L'aigle noir" was released. This time, the success was colossal, attracting an ever-wider audience. The legend was underway.
In 1981, the release of the album "Seule" created a sensation, and Barbara performed in Pantin during a series of now-iconic concerts.
On November 24, 1997, Barbara passed away at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
