5, 4, 3, 2, 1… The Countdown Records Story 1985-88
Description
Acid Jazz is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Countdown Records with an exceptional compilation tracing the history of this cult label founded by Eddie Piller, Maxine Conroy, and Terry Rawlings. Distributed by the legendary independent label Stiff Records, Countdown captured the energy of the 80s Mod revival while flirting with New Wave. Despite a brilliant catalog (Makin' Time, The Prisoners, The Kick...), the label was hampered by the collapse of Stiff and the hegemony of major labels. This experience would serve as a springboard for the creation of the Acid Jazz label, where several Countdown alumni, such as James Taylor and Chris White (Mother Earth), would achieve real success. This compilation tells this epic story through its flagship tracks and rarities, in superb modernist packaging. Released with a new book on Countdown's legacy, from Mod to today.
