Third album by Mueran Humanos. For the uninitiated, Mueran Humanos (Tomas Notcheff, Carmen Burguess) can be difficult to explain. A psycho-electronic duo of garage punk-electronic-psychedelic-krautrock that manages to capture the rich cultural history and excitement of their adopted city, Berlin. Once you listen to them, it makes sense. Simple and catchy songs with a solid foundation of electronics bolstered by powerful bass lines and textural keyboard parts. The vocals are shared by both members, creating a dichotomy between the masculine and feminine energies that shape the band, as found in shoegaze. Spanish speakers are lucky, as the lyrics are surrealist poems of the highest order. Fortunately for the rest of us, they make a special contribution to bands like Collapsing New Buildings or Os Mutantes, where they transcend language barriers and are able to tell a story across the world. Hospital Lullabies is a complement to a film of the same name directed by Carmen Burguess. It is their most refined and coherent statement to date. Although this album is deeply dark, this feeling is counterbalanced by sentiments of romance and optimism and by an immense sense of childlike wonder.
