After "Air Museum" (2011) and "Choral" (2009), "Centralia" is Mountains' third album to be released on Thrill Jockey. For this album, the duo Koen Holtkamp and Brendon Anderegg wrote and recorded at their own pace, to create a focused, precise, yet boundless album. Instead of electronically reprocessing acoustic sounds, they preferred to create electronic sounds using their acoustic instruments (guitar, cello, organs, electric pianos) supplemented with synths and other sound sources. Mostly recorded at Telescope Recording studios in Brooklyn, two tracks, "Propeller" and "Liana," were also taken from live performances and reprocessed. The LP version includes an MP3 coupon, and the CD format comes in a mini-LP gatefold sleeve. A European tour is planned for the spring.
