Mid-City Island

Recorded in 2014, Mid-City Island is Moses Sumney's very first project. Moses recorded it in his Mid-City apartment in Los Angeles, directly onto cassette, using a four-track tape recorder. To mark the tenth anniversary of Mid-City Island, Moses fulfilled the promise he made to himself a few years ago to press it on vinyl. Moses describes Mid-City, Los Angeles, as a concept more than a place. No one has ever heard of it, yet it is the geographical center of the city. Very visible and invisible at the same time. Throughout his ten-year career, Moses Sumney has consistently evaded any definition, as an act of duty: technicolor videos made by himself and monochrome clothing; Art Rock and Black Classical; from a small town in North Carolina to Fashion Weeks; seemingly endless collaborators, but one stunning voice. The assertion that the indefinable still exists and that settling into it is an act of resistance is constant in the worlds of music, fashion, and cinema. Includes the original version of "Plastic" as well as an exclusive bonus track.
