Dissent Remixes

Description

Last year, the Moritz von Oswald Trio released Dissent, their most jazz-inflected album since their formation in 2008, without forgetting Dub and Techno. Dissent Remixes restores the balance between these three elements and reinterprets chapters 2, 4 and 6 of the original album by adding new textures and new rhythms. New recruits in the form of experimental musician Laurel Halo and drummer Heinrich Köbberling brought new perspectives and processes while continuing the exploration of the spaces where Dub, Jazz and Techno interact. The Al Wootton Remix of "Chapter 4" is a groove-heavy track with restrained but relentless UK dance energy. Oscillating percussion and heavy bass drives combine with delays and shimmering textures to form a gloomy yet beautifully laid-back atmosphere. In addition, "Chapter 6" was remixed by none other than Detroit techno legend Carl Craig. Hard rhythms take shape with experimental percussion treatments to create a thrilling track with shifting soundscapes. A powerful dancefloor cut, which shifts at the end into dreamy and beautifully rendered synthesizer explorations. And on the remix of "Chapter 2", Bristol native Peverelist distills the track’s elemental particles and stretches them over a raw, spiky skeleton of pointillistic percussive hits, showing a truly Moritz von Oswald approach to music-making in the process.
