Phase Zero

Description

For his first album on Sub Pop, Morgan Delt offers us a colorful psychedelic rock that evokes the glory days of the "Summer of Love". It's a West Coast psychedelia that permeates Morgan Delt's first LP on Sub Pop, resembling nothing less than an endless sunset. After releasing a cassette followed by an excellent debut album in 2013 on the Trouble In Mind label (Jacco Gardner, Fuzz, Ty Segall), the Californian is now refining his music by exploring new soundscapes, rather than sticking to a predetermined path, allowing his various influences to intertwine according to his own vision and sensibility. The result is a 10-song album composed entirely by Delt, which is breathtakingly beautiful and coherent, where every detail and arrangement seems to fit together perfectly to give the final result the appearance of a complex, rich, and digestible centerpiece. Recorded in his Topanga Canyon Studio, and mastered by JJ Golden, it is more subtle and enigmatic than its predecessor, and closer to the 1967 psyche movement. Sprinkled with hazy echoes, with long, slow chords, framed by soft whispers and voices transported by hallucinogenic effects, as well as some fuzz guitars, that's pretty much what awaits you in "Phase Zero".
