After COVID swept the world in 2020, MONO felt compelled to make a special little digital holiday gift for their fans and, indeed, the entire world. The accompanying message was simple: “We wish everyone good health, happiness, and good cheer for the upcoming New Year.” Originally created in isolation at home, this release consisted of two new songs: “Scarlet Holliday” and “First Winter.” Now, to commemorate the “near end of the vast pandemic,” MONO has reworked and expanded the previously digital-only version into a very special three-song EP (now including the brand new track “Epilogue”). Recorded at home and at Electrical Audio by long-time collaborator Steve Albini, newly mixed by John McEntire and mastered by Bob Weston, “Scarlet Holliday” is finally being released physically on a limited edition 10-inch vinyl. In their unwavering determination to shine a light in the darkness, MONO explains: “These songs were written with the idea of new hope for the new year, as this time has become unpredictably dark for many people around the world.”
