London has a new Brazilian talent in town, named MOMO. Not so new, actually. He is part of the recent generation of artists influenced by Brazilian classics, from the 1970s tropicália, Os Mutantes, and Milton Nascimento. MOMO is releasing his 7th album Gira, on Batov Records, bringing together musicians and very special guests from London’s vibrant jazz community, along with other Brazilian artists, recorded and pressed on tape at the Total Refreshment Center in East London. A roaming collaboration that effortlessly oscillates, guided by the soft yet reassuring and familiar voice of Marcelo Frota, with meditative and exploratory brass touches, Gira was recorded with friends and guests including Alabaster DePlume on tenor saxophone (in the band that Marcelo toured with), Jessica Lauren on keyboards, Tamar Osborn on baritone saxophone, Nick "Emanative" Woodmansey on drums, Carwyn Ellis from Rio 18 on piano, Magnus Mehta from Penya on percussion, and Caetano Malta on bass.
