Consider this your invitation to Café Molly, a lounge bar like no other. The lights are low, the martinis are chilled, the sofas are velvet, and the stage is set for the electrifying talent of whistler Molly Lewis. After the EP The Forgotten Edge with its exotica sounds and the EP Mirage with its tropicalia influences, Molly wanted to encapsulate the sound of Café Molly for her debut album On The Lips, a dreamy homage to ambient music that evokes hazy visions of Hollywood jazz clubs, Italian film soundtracks, and prolonged embraces between lovers. Recorded with producer Thomas Brenneck of the Menahan Street Band, with an open-door policy during sessions, a stream of acclaimed musicians came together on the 10 tracks of the album, including Nick Hakim, Brazilian guitarist Rogê, Leland Whitty and Chester Hansen from the Canadian instrumental group Badbadnotgood, the Chicano soul group Thee Sacred Souls, experimental jazz pianist Marco Benevento, and Leon Michels from the band El Michels Affair. With her intoxicating compositions and sense of staging, Molly Lewis seems ready to join her heroes in the history of the lounge scene in Los Angeles and beyond.
