Description

Molly Lewis's compositions seem to reach our ears from distant shores. They come from another world, emerging more from dreamlike landscapes than from any place existing on the map. An Australian based in Los Angeles, Molly Lewis is a unique artist in today's music scene. Her distinctive whistling, reminiscent of the great Peruvian soprano Yma Sumac, has adorned works in the most diverse styles, ranging from Schumann's lieder to Brazilian jazz, as well as very Spaghetti Western ballads. Molly Lewis's collaborations are quite varied: La Femme, Sébastien Tellier, and even Dr. Dre. She has performed worldwide, at the Yuz Museum in Shanghai, the Cannes Film Festival, the Salón Los Angeles in Mexico, and throughout New Zealand. Molly Lewis's first EP released in 2021, The Forgotten Edge, was produced by Tom Brenneck (Menahan Street Band, Kali Uchis, Charles Bradley, Mark Ronson…). It received strong critical acclaim, attracting praise from the New York Times and NPR, Society, and Les Inrockuptibles. Molly Lewis and Brenneck have teamed up again for this second EP, Mirage, inviting Brazilian guitarist Rogê, as well as percussionist Gibi Dos Santos and keyboardist Roger Manning. Dense and atmospheric, Mirage is Molly Lewis's most hypnotic work to date. Like in Eden Ahbez's Eden’s Island (1970) – from which Nature Boy is featured in Mirage – the EP is based on the artist's visions of an imaginary island. The lush, oceanic textures of Mirage transport us to the sands of an unknown and distant beach, alone or in the company of the one we have always dreamed of.
