Molchat Doma (translated as "The Houses Are Silent"), founded in 2017 in Minsk, Belarus, sits at the intersection of post-punk, new wave, and synth-pop. Dark yet danceable, and with a strong dose of gothic ethos, their music recalls the masters who came before them, but don't be fooled: Molchat Doma creates a sound and a sense that are immediately recognizable as their own. The band consists of Egor Shkutko, who sings the lyrics in Russian with his deep monotone, Roman Komogortsev on guitar, synthesizers, and drum machine, and Pavel Kozlov on bass and synthesizers. The trio's second album, ????? (pronounced Etazhi, meaning "Floors"), was first released in 2018 on the Berlin label Detriti Records. It became a viral success, garnering over a million views on YouTube and becoming a true phenomenon on Bandcamp. The band may be relatively unknown in their native Belarus, but they have reached a huge audience across Europe and beyond. Sacred Bones Records is reissuing this record on silver vinyl.
