Mogwai takes on the soundtrack for the film KIN! The album is made up of tracks recorded by the band for the crime/sci-fi film. KIN is directed by Jonathan and Josh Baker and stars Jack Reynor, Zoë Kravitz, Carrie Coon, Dennis Quaid, and James Franco. Stuart Braithwaite explains: "We were super happy when we were asked to score Jonathan and Josh Baker's first film. It was great to do something completely different from what we had done before and to see our music adapted to a totally different environment from its previous uses. This is some of Mogwai's best work for me, and we can't wait for people to hear it." This is Mogwai's first time composing a film soundtrack, although they have previously composed for the documentaries Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait, Atomic: Living in Dread and Promise, and Before the Flood. The band also composed the soundtrack for the highly successful Canal + series The Returned.
