In 2017, Moderat (Modeselektor+Apparat) announced that they would take an extended break after a final concert in front of 17,000 people in their hometown of Berlin. They are now back. MORE D4TA, the group's fourth album, arrives more than six years after its predecessor (III in 2016).
Created largely at a time when touring (and most travel) was no longer on the agenda, MORE D4TA is an album that grapples with feelings of isolation and information overload - issues that have become particularly pronounced over the past two years. The ten songs on MORE D4TA are the result of collaboration, but long before the tracks were written, Moderat spent months reconnecting with each other and with music, indulging in long periods of experimentation and slowly fleshing out their ideas by diving into modular composition, field recordings, and other sonic oddities.
But no matter how far the group ventures into the outer realms of music, they always return to their unique sound world, a place where emotive pop and floating electronic soundscapes walk hand in hand. After spending most of two decades making music together, the group has carved out a sound and aesthetic that is their own, and MORE D4TA showcases a band that has creatively recharged and is fully dedicated to their craft.
