Music of Weather Report

Description

The great Czech bassist Miroslav Vitous returns once again to the music of Weather Report, the group he co-founded with Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter in 1970. It is the freedom of improvisation, characteristic of the early days of Weather Report, that mainly interests Vitous, who responds to their old rallying cry: "everyone and no one improvises." The revisited repertoire of the Report includes Birdland, Seventh Arrox, Scarlet Woman, Pinocchio, and Morning Lake. Miroslav's group also plays Juggler's Issue, a piece that the original line-up of Weather Report played in concert without ever having recorded it. The program is interspersed with three new blues compositions by Vitous. Driven by the stunning double drums of Gerald Cleaver and Nasheet Waits, the ensemble is energetic and bold, blending fast tempos with free rhythmic sections, Miroslav's double bass sometimes sounding like a third saxophone between the other two.
