This soundtrack is a collection of the best tracks by jazz legend Miles Davis selected by the director (from “Donna Lee” with Charlie Parker, to iconic 1950s works such as his brilliant improvisation on “Generique” from the classic “Ascenseur pour l'échafaud,” as well as standards from the album “Miles Ahead” and, of course, from the greatest jazz album of all time, “Kind of Blue”), along with audio commentary excerpts from the film. This album perfectly showcases the evolution of Miles’s sound in the 1960s through tracks from “Sketches of Spain” and “Someday My Prince Will Come,” as well as his invention of electric fusion jazz, whose best example is surely “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” in a single edit 45 rpm version from “Bitches Brew,” right through to his triumphant return in the mid-1980s (“Tutu” in 1986). The compilation also reveals a completely unreleased track titled “Hail to the Real Chief.” It features never-before-heard performances by Miles over music written by Lenny White and co-produced by White and Vince Wilburn jr. The band on this track is a true all-star lineup, bringing together, in addition to White and Wilburn, Marcus Miller, Emilio Modeste, Jeremy Pelt, Antoine Roney, John Scofield, Bernard Wright, and Quinton Zoto.
