The Man With The Horn is an album by Miles Davis released in 1981, which he recorded after being persuaded by his nephew Vince Wilburn, a drummer in a Chicago band that played music combining funk, soul, and jazz fusion. Miles also met saxophonist Bill Evans, bassist Marcus Miller, and called drummer Al Foster. The studio result is a hybrid record, split between the Chicago band's tracks that he himself describes as "bubble gum music" and very free jazz-rock. However, it is less dark and less dense than the humid jungles he wandered through aimlessly in the 1970s. The hit "The Man With The Horn" and its sweet-sweet refrain were heavily played on FM stations. Jazz enthusiasts, rejoicing at Miles' return, delight in the rest of the repertoire. But it is Mike Stern's incandescent solo on "Fat Time" that everyone savored.
