Long Lost Solace Find

Description

Mike Polizze’s debut solo album, and his first release for Paradise of Bachelors, introduces us to the former Purling Hiss frontman and Birds of Maya shredder leaving his noise guitar behind to take center stage. Performed entirely by Polizze with longtime friend Kurt Vile (much of it live and acoustic) and engineered by War on Drugs’ Jeff Zeigler, this intimate Philadelphia adventure brings out the bittersweet melodism of Dizzy Polizzy’s songs, revealing true folk-pop gems. In 2015, Paradise of Bachelors' Christopher Smith encouraged Mike to play his first true solo show under his own name, opening for The Weather Station. This album is the fruit of that decisive moment, with Polizze, Zeigler, and Vile reunited at Uniform Recording to fine-tune these twelve songs. And what songs they are! With very little electric guitar and few audible effects, Polizze's expressiveness and dexterity as a fingerstyle guitarist (and singer) shine through, especially on unadorned tracks like "Wishing Well" and the instrumental "D'Modal," reminiscent of his friend and fellow Delco native, Steve Gunn. The atmosphere is amiably languid, and one immediately gets an impression of quiet bliss and seductive nonchalance that conceals the quagmire of contradictions, anxieties, nostalgia, and nauseating torpor suggested by the elliptical lyrics. 'Long Lost Solace Find' shows that Mike Polizze is an inexhaustible source of little melodies, perfectly turned riffs, and sweetly sung ditties.
