Since 2011, Mike has been a cornerstone of Drag City, first with Sic Alps, then as a solo artist and with The Peacers – but Mike "The Mighty Flashlight" Fellows has primarily been a key figure behind the scenes at Drag City since its early days, performing on stage and on the records of Royal Trux, Silver Jews, and Will Oldham. In fact, Donovan met Fellows (they both call themselves Mike!) for the first time in 1994 at the legendary Drag City Invitational. Fellows has contributed to the releases of Endless Boogie, Pigeons, Weeping Bong Band, and Prison in recent years. So, when these two puzzling-minded musicians came together, Mike D brought Mike F on board to help shape his new solo album. That's when The Mighty Flashlight got to work, bringing his recording, writing, performance, and mixing talents. The combination of the two Mikes makes Donovan's fourth solo album one that reaches all the heights of what he is capable of. And Fellows wanted to hear something different in Donovan's sound – so it could only be a meeting of minds in the end.
