The new album from celebrated harpist and composer Mikaela Davis, Graceland Way (forthcoming on Kill Rock Stars), weaves a sprawling, kaleidoscopic neo-western dystopia from an intimate starting point: a duality amplified by a subtle exploration of light and darkness, grace and struggle, the rose and the thorn, as well as the mystical power that emanates from their meeting point. The resulting "canyon country" epic owes much to the eponymous street in Chevy Chase Canyon where the album was recorded, the history of Laurel Canyon, the myth of Graceland, Elvis's home, and Paul Simon's constant reinvention. "At the end of the journey, the place you were always meant to be isn't even a place, it's a state of mind: Graceland Way," Davis says. Featuring a new track by Cass McCombs (Mizmoon) as well as contributions from Karley Hartzman (Wednesday), Tim Heidecker, Madison Cunningham, Neal Francis, James Felice (The Felice Brothers), Clay Finch (Mapache), and Hannah Read.
