Description

Frames is the new album by Miho Hazama, her fourth release on Edition, confirming her status as an internationally renowned composer and conductor. Based in New York, Hazama has built her career on meticulous writing for large ensembles, a sweeping musical vision, and highly precise orchestration. Her work spans from Japan to Europe and the United States, with collaborations including the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Danish Radio Big Band, and the Metropole Orkest. With her debut at the BBC Proms confirmed for 2025, her compositional style continues to grow in scope and authority, qualities that clearly shine through in Frames. This album marks Hazama's return to a close collaboration with the Danish Radio Big Band, echoing the creative relationship initiated on her first Edition album, Imaginary Visions (2021). On Frames, Hazama draws inspiration from the band's history, taking cues from the musical directors who shaped its identity over the decades: Ib Glindemann, Ray Pitts, Palle Mikkelborg, Thad Jones, Ole Kock Hansen, Bob Brookmeyer, and Jim McNeely, whose recent passing lends a particular depth to the project. It is from their influences that Hazama makes her own compositions her own.
