Recorded in 1968 and intended for release on Sire Records, Microminiature Love by Michael Yonkers, an icon of outsider folk and psychedelic rock, remained shelved until it was rediscovered and released by De Stijl Records in 2002 as a limited pressing, exclusively on vinyl. At the time, our friends at Aquarius Records, a true institution in San Francisco, described it better than we ever could: An unrecognized visionary from the late sixties, ahead of his time, finally receives the recognition he deserves with this reissue. Yonkers' music was unlike anything heard at the time (or even today, for that matter): wild garage psychedelia, with lyrics of a mad genius and a crazy, acid-soaked guitar. Yonkers, a legendary figure from the Minneapolis area, made his own effects pedals, had shortened his Fender Telecaster to a mere plank, and played like no one else. I can't find the words to describe it. It's a bit like a fusion of a stripped-down Black Sabbath, the Troggs, Pere Ubu, and the Cramps? Sub Pop then released the album on CD, and later produced a limited edition vinyl pressing in 2011, which has been sold out for many years. Unfortunately, Michael Yonkers passed away in 2026 while this reissue was in preparation. He was an incredible artist, truly unique, and one of the most wonderful people we have ever met.
