The German piano virtuoso presents his first solo album. Michael Wollny has released more than a dozen albums as a leader over his 15-year career, including "Weltentraum" in 2014, which was critically acclaimed, received 4 keys from Télérama, and remained in the French TOP20 JAZZ for a long time. Télérama wrote at the time: "It is not to overshadow Michael Wollny to place this young German pianist (born in 1978) in the prestigious lineage of Paul Bley, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, Brad Mehldau, Esbjörn Svensson, Stefano Bollani: he easily withstands the comparison." At the beginning of 2020, the idea of a first solo album took root: it seemed the right moment for Wollny to begin exploring the inexhaustible wealth of music, stories, thoughts, moods, images, and encounters he has accumulated over the years. The recording, long planned at the Teldex studios in Berlin, took place in April 2020 during the lockdown in a very special atmosphere. It was a time for Wollny to dive within himself and offer us very inspired sound vignettes of his own composition, as well as covers of artists as diverse as Tori Amos, Sufjan Stevens, Timber Timbre, Paul Hindemith, and more. A superb collection that will delight all solo piano enthusiasts. Notably, the sound recording is magnificent, capturing the emotion closely.
