Kitsune No Yomeiri, which could be translated as "the fox's wedding," is a charming expression used to describe sun showers. Dawson returned from a recent tour in Japan with a collection of field recordings documenting the spring rains encountered throughout his journey. These unique sounds, ranging from the tranquility of shrines to the tumult of city streets, permeate the album. Dawson also acknowledges that the wonderful people he met during this tour profoundly influenced the musical direction of the album. After each concert, he found himself immersed in exciting conversations about the guitar. By overcoming the language barrier, he discovered that he was communicating with an immense sincerity that he would usually have avoided at all costs. "I have always recorded at home, like in a whirlwind, but this time, I felt that these conversations were present with me in the studio." Musically, the album has a slight western influence. It is not country, but there is a subtle echo of Dawson's roots from his childhood spent in the prairies. Constellations of scattered notes and rusty sounds weave melodies imbued with nostalgia, like chance encounters between old friends. Dawson allows phrases and gestures to repeat throughout the record, creating a whole that resembles reading a novel more than a succession of vignettes competing in intensity.
