Description

Rasta State is the new album by Mykal Rose aka Michael Rose, who was the charismatic singer of the group Black Uhuru from 1977 to 1983, at the time when the group was at the height of its fame. A return to the roots of Reggae Roots by one of the finest voices in Reggae, with King Jammy on production as a bonus. Michael Rose was the legendary voice of Black Uhuru at the time when the group won the first Grammy Award ever given to a Reggae act. It was the early 80s, when Stevie Wonder played with Sly & Robbie on their album and when the group regularly opened for world tours by bands like the Clash, the Rolling Stones and Police. Born in 1958 in Jamaica, he began making music at a very young age and met renowned artists such as Dennis Brown, John Holt, Big Youth, The Wailers, Niney the Observer, Gregory Isaacs, Sly and Robbie. Then after the success achieved by Black Uhuru, he released his first solo album "Demonstration" on his label Grammy Rose. Then "Bogus Badge". But it was by signing with RCA Records that Mykal Rose literally exploded. In the early 90s, two albums were produced: "Proud" and "Bonanza". Later, in 1993, Michael Rose joined forces again with Sly and Robbie for a series of singles including Mr Mention, Monkey, Visit Them and Bad Boys. Michael Rose remains one of the most in-demand Reggae artists. He lends his voice to many Jamaican labels such as Star Trail and Brickwell, which keeps him always very close to his early audience. His voice appeals both to the traditional Roots audience and New Roots. What is certain is that he revitalizes this music with each of his new albums.
