The Canadian singer-songwriter Michael Rault, originally from Edmonton, has set to music reflections on sleep, dreams, and more broadly on nightlife.Rault began working on these new songs after wrapping up his long tour around Living Daylight, his previous album (Burger Records). As he started writing It's A New Day Tonight, it was while performing as the opening act for the late Charles Bradley and the Australians King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard that Rault caught the attention of Wayne Gordon – producer/sound engineer associated with the legendary House of Soul.
It's A New Day Tonight takes us back to the early 70s, between psych folk and power pop with an obvious melodic strength reminiscent of bands like Wings, Badfinger, Big Star, and 10cc. An atmosphere facilitated by the live-to-tape recording style dear to Daptone.
