Michael J. Sheehy has been composing and recording records for nearly thirty years, first as the founder and leader of the cult band Dream City Film Club, active in the mid-90s, then as a solo artist and as the singer of the garage rock band with roots influences Miraculous Mule. He has toured with artists such as Kristin Hersh, Tindersticks, John Cale, and Peter Murphy, and his songs have been used in films like "Intimacy" and the television series "Deadwood." After six years of absence, Sheehy has just announced "Don't We Deserve Some Kind of Love?", his seventh solo album. Exploring themes of addiction, recovery, forgiveness, love, grief, and the search for identity, this album highlights a shift in perspective initiated with its 2020 predecessor, "Distance Is The Soul Of Beauty."
"I stopped drinking in 2012 and after 20 years of alcoholism, there was a lot of damage and trauma to repair," explains Sheehy. "For two years, I didn't write a single song. I was trying to rediscover myself without alcohol or drugs. I had spent two decades destroying everything that resembled stability and writing about the disaster that I was. I had always written for and about people for whom life is a struggle, and my lyrics almost always stemmed from a deep despair." "Don't We Deserve Some Kind Of Love?" includes contributions from Fiona Brice (violin), Sandy Mill (backing vocals), Ian Burns (drums), and Patrick McCarthy (guitar). The album was recorded at home over a period of five years, while Sheehy was a stay-at-home dad and worked evenings in a bar in Camden, north London.
