Following 50, released in 2017, True North sees British songwriter Michael Chapman take his iconic music even further towards excellence. This album brings together heart-wrenching tracks—mostly unreleased—under a more intimate sound signature than before, playing on melancholic atmospheres and minimalist textures. Recorded in Wales, True North travels from the Bahamas to Texas, passing through Leeds, where Chapman grew up. It is a haunting album, filled with the musician's memories and reflections on mortality. He is joined in his introspection by old friends and new disciples: Steve Gunn on production and guitar, Bridget St Jones on vocals, Sarah Smout on cello, and BJ Cole on pedal steel— the latter having previously collaborated with many artists such as Elton John, Terry Allen, and Björk.
