Pop Sauvage

Description

Founded in early 2013 and influenced by artists like The Cure, Joy Division, and other post-punk and 80's new wave bands, Metro Verlaine now champions their wild pop, always in French, on stage all over France. After Funeral Party, released in 2022, the band returns with Pop Sauvage, an acid road trip, foot to the floor, that tracks down every lost ray of sunshine in the grayness of memories. Recorded on the Basque coast under the guidance of Charles Rowell (Crocodiles), the album carves its surfy pop path in the wake of 60's West Coast bands. California, then, but not the flower power version, as here it’s the magnificent failure that is celebrated, the solitary pogo, eyes filled with tears of rage, all chanted in French by Raphaëlle who throws punches on the very post-punk “Hooligan” or “Amours d’Été,” a love boxing match on an old-fashioned slow. A record for the road, and no matter the destination, only the journey matters.
