Meshell Ndegeocello returned to writing and composing during the lockdowns, thus offering her 18 original tracks to the Blue Note label for a new chapter in her creative story. An adventure that the elusive pioneer of the neo-soul movement began in 1993 with Plantation Lullabies and has since continually reinvented her music with around ten albums and collaborations with Madonna, Basement Jaxx, Robert Glasper, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Chaka Khan, Marc Ribot, and Ibeyi. This new album is a bit of me, my travels. “I made my first record when I was 22, that was more than 30 years ago, I’ve accumulated a lot of things that I want to share today. The Omnichord Real Book is about the way we can see old things in a new way,” explains Meshell.
