Meshell Ndegeocello reconnected with writing and composing during the lockdowns, offering her 18 original tracks to the Blue Note label for a new chapter in her creative journey.
A journey that the elusive pioneer of the neo-soul movement began in 1993 with 'Plantation Lullabies,' and since then, has continually reinvented her music with a dozen albums and collaborations with Madonna, Basement Jaxx, Robert Glasper, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Chaka Khan, Marc Ribot, and Ibeyi. "This new album is a little bit of me, my travels. I made my first record when I was 22, over 30 years ago, and I've accumulated a lot of things I want to share today. 'The Omnichord Real Book' is about how we can see old things in a new way," Meshell explains.
