Two Daughters

Description

Two Daughters marks a turning point. After several notable releases, Méryll clearly takes things to the next level with an album that finally captures the mesmerizing madness of her live performances on record. Her concerts, possessing telluric power, during which the artist physically engages with the sound material in an instinctive and radical way, finally have their counterpart in the artist's discography. Armed with a production that does justice to her fine and expert mastery of the radio spectrum, this double LP still emphasizes the concept of abstract sculpting of sound material dear to the artist (who, we recall, is a professional wood sculptor), but surprises us with the presence of magnificent consonances and remarkable (poly)rhythmic work. Experimental yet hit-like. Mental yet cool. Abstract yet intense. Adjectives like opposing magnetic poles, normally incompatible in music, but which ultimately coexist in this double album, which also brings together live excerpts (Sonic Protest, Plein Bruit) and a commission (GRM), for the first time on record. The only thing missing from Méryll's crown as a complete artist was a high-flying album blending advanced compositional works with improvised live performances.
