"THE NU-CUMBIA SLAP!" --- FIP ---.#KRAUT-CUMBIA --- After the very acoustic "Dónde estás María?", I decided to try a new experiment, taking as a reference the legendary group "Cumbia siglo XX" and its futuristic vision of Caribbean coastal cumbia in the 1980s. This new 1980s cumbia combines funky basslines and more modern rhythms to take traditional music in new directions, disco or even rock, adapting cumbia to the urban context and modernity.This story served as a starting point for the Meridian Brothers for this new album. Inspired by the pioneers, they adapted the same experiments to the context of the 21st century, where cumbia enjoys unprecedented international exposure. With more modern means, drum machines, guitars and synths, algorithmic software, they forge a new, more experimental and transgressive sound.This album therefore features a mixture of influences and genres, with cumbia remaining the backbone of the project. Urban beats, synth grooves, "glitches", vulgar language and slang punctuate the album.
