Venus Is Red

Description

Venus is Red is the first album by the Rennes-based band Mégadisq. After a first EP released in 224, the band returns with an album ranging from psychedelic rock to 80s-sounding pop to Brit Pop, influenced as much by Blur and Pond as by David Bowie or Cate Le Bon. The album's lyrics explore, with a touch of nostalgia and festive nihilism, moral harassment, the isolation of individuals on Earth, of Earth in the universe, and attempt an approach to the end of the world with serene resilience. Each track is an intimate reflection on the world, sometimes staged around characters with ambivalent viewpoints. The focus track "House by the Garden," with its two distinct parts—one pop and the other rock—evokes the difficult quest of mourning and the infinite loop that can be induced by the sudden disappearance of a loved one. In the continuity of the first EP, the music emerges from a drum/drum machine assembly in the style of Beck or Gorillaz. Layers of synthesizers and versatile guitars are added, dominated by multifaceted vocals. The tracks on Venus is Red are the dynamic pop-rock soundtracks of a science fiction with universal themes, defying eras.
