In nearly twenty years of career, marked by five wonderful albums, Mayra Andrade has greatly enchanted us. So, to re-enchant us, to elevate the magic a notch higher, clearly and distinctly, she has chosen to return to the essentials, to the pure organism and the infinitely intimate. This is the essence of ReEncanto, where, accompanied by guitarist Djodje Almeida, the singer revisits her repertoire in the simplest form. It was in 2022, during the tour accompanying the release of her previous album, “Manga,” that the idea was born to return to the queen formula. The one of voice and guitar, the very foundation of Cape Verdean music, with which, at the age of 15, in Praia, she took her first steps. It is also the formula that accompanies the initial phase of composition. The one of notes rubbed, scratched, and upon which emotions and words rest. An intimate setting devoid of arrangements, the involvement of numerous musicians, or the mechanics of studio recording. “I realized that over the years and albums, my audience had never seen me in this configuration, even though it is the key to my journey.” This suspended moment, recorded in London, also marks both the beginning and the end of a cycle for Mayra Andrade. She has just given birth, becoming a mother. In the midst of this transition, the need to return to her roots reveals itself to express what has always driven her: “It is through the guitar and the voice that I discovered the emotional and physical pleasure of being in music.”
