Description

Mayako XO is the solo project of Los Angeles-based Sara Gernsbacher. Mayako XO’s *XO* is an exercise in singing between multiple personalities—non-human, past, and future—converging in a spiraling current. The structure is made of sparse layers, from new-age/no-wave feminine post-punk to repetitive notes. Guitars play a cyclical call-and-response game unified by vocals. *XO* is a nascent awakening, an invitation to see what is no longer useful and to choose what is. *XO* questions the legitimacy of human animals to estimate the value of things and to consider themselves superior in light of our tools and our ability to destroy. Can we open ourselves to all beings, membranes, and cells of a love that is there, everywhere, spread in particles vibrating in unison? What is exhaled by some is inspired by others. Separation is an illusion! The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio in the fall of 2019.
