An album title that sets the tone. A red and green tone, like the psychedelic cover art adorning this extraordinary album. Because Yuletide, if you didn't know, refers to the end-of-year holidays. And the album plunges us unreservedly into a late December evening, never disappointing. For who better than the Australian Maxwell Farrington to guide us through Christmas traditions, usually ardently defended by Anglo-Saxon culture. - - And traditions are indeed central to this album, which opens like a Christmas stocking brimming with Santa, snowmen, gifts, holly, Auld Lang Syne, but also (and especially): roast potatoes, ham hocks, gravy, savory crackers, and a few crumbs. Not surprising for an artist who also happens to be a chef! - - While alcohol isn't explicitly mentioned, one can assume its presence as the songs sway between fireside melancholy and unifying anthems to sing together around the table. Intoxicating, moving tracks, and a few 80s and country outliers, always connected by that crooner voice, worthy of a well-lubricated late evening (and late album). - - A homemade album recipe, concocted by Yann Ollivier, which we won't reveal here as it's simply meant to be savored. But one that can be put on repeat for Christmas dinners in 2022. And certainly for years to come.
