A few months after winning the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960, Maurizio Pollini signed an exclusive contract with EMI and recorded two albums dedicated to Chopin. While the first, which includes Concerto No. 1, was warmly received, the second, featuring the Études, faced an uncertain fate. The pianist withdrew his approval during post-production without providing an explanation. For decades, this recording seemed destined to remain unreleased. However, in 2011, it was finally approved by Pollini. This new SACD edition, the first to be remastered in high resolution from the original tapes, not only highlights Pollini's technical genius but also reveals the touching sensitivity of the young 18-year-old pianist.
