Metallic Life Review is the result of several years spent recording sounds of metallic objects around the world. Matmos gathered these noises like a passionate collector, transforming them into rhythms, sometimes into melodies or bass lines, sometimes into simple sonic textures. A patient collection that clashes with a nervous and rapid editing. The whole is carefully composed, but fleeting. Music or noise? It doesn't matter: it is a work of rare beauty, made from raw and metallic materials.The album plays on a strong contrast: on one side, rough industrial sounds, on the other, softer melodic passages that balance the whole. The title refers to this idea of a "life review", that moment when one sees their life flash before them, as reported by those who have brushed with death. It is also a metaphor for the album, which functions as an accelerated summary of Matmos's career, through the metallic objects they have used over the years. All the sounds come from archives spanning their entire history.
