Mouth Games (Vinyle LP) / Mathias Heise Quintet

Description

Side A:
Searchlight Theory - Para Mi Madre - Winter Rose
Side B: Blues for Toots - Funky Sister - I Want To Be Happy - Blues For My Father
This project, described by Heise as his "first acoustic jazz album", is the result of years of meticulous work. Mouth Games features a captivating interplay between Heise and a carefully selected group of highly talented musicians, including accomplished pianist Jacob Christoffersen, master guitarist Pelle von Bülow, acclaimed bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk, and versatile drummer Jeppe Gram.
With nine meticulously chosen tracks, including seven original compositions and two standards, Mouth Games presents a compelling narrative that explores the classic structural conventions of jazz with flair, innovation, taste, and virtuosity. Heise's masterful harmonica playing effortlessly intertwines with the highly accomplished rhythm section. Their telepathic interplay results in memorable interpretations filled with powerful and mature solos, deeply rooted in the language of modern jazz traditions. Heise states:
“...I have played many jazz gigs, collecting pieces over a long period, finding musicians I gel with. I feel like I found the right musicians—heart to heart, we talk to each other. In the studio, there must be a lot of interaction, spontaneous feelings, and events that no one can prepare for in advance. For this to happen, I had to be at a certain level, prepared, focused. For the first time, I had the skills and the maturity to make my first acoustic jazz album—which is not an easy task!”
